Currently I am in week 3 of Remote Learning (as a teacher), while we are all now home and conducting "life as usual" from inside our homes. Early on in this #newnormal I think we all began to realize that we would need to adjust to a new way of living. Grocery trips are more carefully planned and happen less often. Time with friends has come to a halt (unless you are seeing them using technology or through a window). And many of us have now begun to work from home, leading to more screen-time than ever before. Right away I saw myself struggling with the balance of work, family, and healthy choices. I wasn't alone in knowing that I needed to find a way to stay motivated and to make sure I got outside frequently.
This lead to the creation of the Covid-Outdoor Challenge. The premise is simple, get outside for, at least, 30 minutes every single day. I put the group up on Facebook on March 22, 2020 with the statement, "Stay connected and inspired throughout this challenging time. While stay socially-distance we can still take time to be outside. Let's motivate each other to get outside every single day for, at least, 30 minutes. It's good for the soul and it's great for your overall mental health. The great thing about this is that there are so many ways to get outdoors. It doesn't have to be a physical activity, it can simply be sitting on your porch in the fresh air, laying on your lawn reading a book, blowing bubbles with the kids, repotting plants, and more.
This group has been so positive in such a trying time. Each day I check out what everyone has been up to and I love seeing people connecting from all over the world! Through the written posts and the photos that people are sharing I am noticing that we are getting more and more inspired to be outside. On days when the weather is chilly or rainy, friends are encouraging friends and complete strangers are giving each other the boost to get out there!
