Chakra Eco-Lodge

Retreat Center

"Nestled in the cloud forest mountains of Costa Rica, at the end of a gravel road and on the border of two important and large national parks, sits Chakra Private Retreat Centre, a hand-made, off the grid lodge, built on the side of a mountain. Started nearly 10 years ago, simply as a conservation project, it has grown into a family owned and community-supported project that helps sustain the people of the small community of San Jeronimo. Today, it brings people from all around the world to the tiny mountain town to experience some time off the grid and some true mountain adventures. To try and explain the place is difficult, you truly have to experience it for yourself, but let me try and paint you a picture.

Imagine for a moment, holding a hot cup of locally grown and processed coffee, the smell rising up; you breathe it in as the heat from the cup warms your hands. The sounds of the rainforest surround you, birds and crickets chirping, the sound of a flowing river, a calming background noise.

In front of you are rising peaks and ridges, covered in dense and lush flora. You stand contained by a large wooden cabana, with partly complete walls; open to the nature around you so you can take it all in, every sight, sound, and smell. Birds playfully explore the nearby trees, eating their fruits, their colors made more brilliant by the light of the shining sun. This is your Chakra Eco Lodge, there are no distractions here, only you in this exact moment and the beauty of the rainforest."  These were the words of Trail and Kale writer ALASTAIR DIXON who recently wrote a beautiful article all about the hidden gem, Chakra Eco-Lodge Private Retreat Center. Read the full article HERE.

Rustic Eco-Living

Your family will be one with nature in your own open-air nature cabin. Bedding, pillows, and netting will be provided. Although, insects are at a minimum at this time of the year.

Overlooking the mountains and rainforest, you will be breathing the freshest air as you sleep peacefully after your days of adventure.  The temperature is cooler at night, so plan to wear your cozy, warm pajamas and warm socks.  When you wake, you'll head down to the main platform for fresh, hot coffee or tea.  You can enjoy an optional morning yoga class while breakfast is being prepared. You don't even need to get out of your jammies.

Imagine traditional Costa Rican meals made fresh, on site daily and prepared with love!

Each meal is locally grown, full of nutrition and will leave you feeling healthy and renewed.

Delicious coffee from the beans of the coffee farm down the road.

Fresh picked papayas and mangoes, and eggs gathered from the hens nearby.

Meals may consist of eggs, rice and beans (gallo pinto), fruit, granola, toast, protein pancakes, and more. You'll even have an opportunity to learn how to make a Costa Rican recipes!

Our Journey

Arrive in Costa Rica!  Spend the night in San Jose at a hotel to be determined soon. You can relax and spend the day in San Jose preparing for our upcoming adventures. Hotel is included for Sunday night. (There is an optional adventure trip on this day, rafting & zip-lining, for an additional fee which you can add to your trip when you register on our website. You would need to arrive in San Jose on Saturday if you add this option).

  • Hike to Chakra: you'll want a small day pack to hike to road with in case you need water or snacks that you've packed.  This is a challenging walk but I have seen a wide variety of abilities and ages be successful.

  • When we arrive at Chakra we will have our retreat welcome, settle into the rooms, and have our first calming yoga class before dinner and winding down for the night.

The Benefits

  • Couples who adventure together, stay together, am I right? If you are traveling with your parenting partner then during this retreat you’ll have the opportunity to work together as a family but also to work together and reconnect as a couple, making your parenting and marriage stronger.

  • Each day we will awake with the sun, eat a healthy, homemade breakfast and experience a challenging adventure together.  You will push your limits and conquer your fears.

  • Through our daily connection to nature and our families you will truly feel like you are living life to its fullest. You cannot escape the feeling of bliss as you live among the trees and support one another through daily challenges and rejuvenating yoga.

  • There’s nothing quite like being in a beautiful location amidst the rainforest foliage and fresh air, with no electricity or access to wifi.  You will truly be able to disconnect. This disconnection will lead to your reconnection with yourself, as a couple, and especially as a family.   Your body will become more in-sync with its own natural rhythms and strengths.

  • While at the Chakra Eco Lodge you will spend wholesome, quality time together as a family.  Through tree climbing, waterfall rappelling, hiking, yoga, a community project, and more you will leave Costa Rica feeling a stronger bond and connection as a family.

  • At the end of the week you will have the opportunity to give back to the local community of San Jeronimo in a meaningful way by being part of a community project. Past projects have included painting a school and helping prepare plants for a women’s group to sell and earn money from. Our specific community project will be determined closer to the retreat dates.
